Doc, I agree on all counts. Here in Ohio the answer to how to solve the Republican problem is not to vote Democrat, but just get a rash of new Republicans who profess respect for Democrat ideas! You should see some of the 30 second ads that have been running out here on TV! Republicans expressing praise for Democrat ideas? Hmmm. Sounds like Hillary Clinton to me! People forget or don't know she used to be a Goldwater Girl when she was a young'un. She used to campaign for Barry Goldwater. Not sure how she became a Democrat? Ann Coulter loves the Grateful Dead, she was a DeadHead and then became a Republican. Until the candidates can decide what they hell they are, I don't think 2008 will be the Democrat Revolution people think...I am betting Karl Rove in his new demoted position will be very busy cooking up "Swift Boat Vets Against...." campaigns for many people. Rove is dirty just like his mentor Lee Atwater! I must agree with you that Ken Lay will walk. He sure can afford the lawyers to paint himself as the victim. Too bad Tom Delay's lawyers are not that good....

Well, I don't know what to say about democrat or republican. I think they all have failings. However this 'person' who shall not be named in the top slot is not only an asshole as a human. He is evil, he is working to line his own pockets with gold, no make that diamonds. All political parties have problems. Being an older "hippy" I can say for sure that us baby boomers sure wanted something better for this world when we reached our mid fifties. We wanted world peace, we wanted leaders we could trust. We wanted a nice clean world without global warming. Not too mention lots of cheap, potent 'smoke'....ok, I guess I stretched it there a bit. But we wanted better things for our children at least. Leaders are 'rat bastards' in my book. That will never change. Never been political, but I can say this I will be from here on. Votes must count for something. Or else the present 'king' we have would not be in power. Just do as I do, keep counting the days. Every thing changes, so must regimes. Perhaps the next Pres. will be an honorable man, someone who is worthy of our trust.

Dear Dr. Kaukonen, Should I take this editorial personally? Because, of course, I do. Thank you, Miss Nobun N. Uvven P.S. Are you getting my emails? Maybe the FBI is just taking their time reading them before they pass them between us.

You are so right about books. Funny the things you remember about them, unlikely books that you have read decades ago. But still, all these years later the memory is precious. I was fortunate enough to take art classes at a local university while only 14. There I met a young gal who turned me onto the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Big, Big turning point in my life. One of my favorite authors. As a pseudo artist, I say that because there are so few really talented illustrators out there. Art and writing have indeed changed. And what is passed as artwork is similar to what is written and what passes for music nowadays...as I was saying (time to take some ritalin myself) I have seen great illustrations in books pass by the way and crap art be used instead. I hope that whatever you can find your sons is as good as is out there. I fear that quality will slip even further by the time they are adults. It is a shame that books are becoming a thing of the past. Damn shame!
